Here's my confession for the week: I was terrified to hear Duran Duran's new single, "Pressure Off." Don't get me wrong, as a lifelong Duranie I was obliged to listen/love it regardless of what I actually thought, but I really really really wanted to love it. And I was scared. What if it was something I grew sick of instantly (like their first single, "All You Need is Now" from the last album of the same name). As we all know, the first single from a new album is a BIG deal. It sets the tone for the entire album and subsequent tour.
So, the single was released last Friday, but I didn't even try to listen to it until Monday (due to my blood poisoning last week, I wanted to be in the right state of mind to hear the single). Friends, I'm not even kidding you here, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (to infinity) this song. In fact, it may be my new favorite Duran Duran song ever (and that's saying A LOT).It's currently playing on repeat in my mind. I LOVE it. It's brilliant. It has the perfect mix of Duran Duran synth with modern day nods. When I first heard it, I couldn't stop dancing all over the place. It makes you move. It's perfect. You must hear it. This second. You will thank me. I promise.
Their new album, "Paper Gods," will be released on September 18th. We just got tickets to see them play the Hollywood Bowl in October (can't wait!) and I'm so excited for Keith to get to see their whole show. He got to see them play four songs a few months ago, but a whole set? It's going to be awesome. Plus, he loves Pressure Off, too! Score!
