Every year on 9/11, people share their inspiring and heartbreaking stories. I've always felt silly because I don't really have one. When I heard the news, I'd just woken up, was completely out of it, and didn't really comprehend the magnitude of what was going on. In fact, I'm embarrassed to say I went back to sleep for a bit after hearing about the first plane.
I was visiting friends and family out of state at the time, so I'd been traveling (hence my need for sleep). Due to the planes being grounded for the next few days, I ended up getting stranded out of state and couldn't get home for work.
Seeing the footage now and hearing the stories always breaks my heart and I wish I'd had a better reaction upon first hearing the news. I can't even imagine sitting at my desk and seeing a plane headed straight for where I was. My thoughts go out to the families and friends of those we lost that day. R.I.P.
