Back in 1995, my sister, Erin, and I attended our very first Sundance film. At the time, we were both living in Provo, Utah, and had never been to Sundance before. In fact, we really didn't go then either, as we just attended a screening in Salt Lake City that didn't have any cast members or the director there (we were hoping for Ethan Hawke, but, sadly, no Ethan....).
The movie was Before Sunrise and I LOVED it. I adore it. I've seen it more times than I care to admit and I never tire of it. Generally, it's about two characters named Jesse and Celine who meet by chance on a train and spend one night together. The film is pretty much just them walking around Vienna talking and having adventures. It's magical. I love it.Nine years later, they released a sequel to the movie called before Before Sunset and I didn't even know it was possible to love it more than the original, but I did. It starts up nine years after their first meeting and, again, follows Jesse and Celine walking around talking (but this time they're in Paris). Perhaps it's because I'm around the same age the characters were during each film when they came, but each film has touched me in various ways.
Imagine my surprise to learn that the latest sequel, Before Midnight, has been completed (!), picks back up with the characters nine years later, and will be (wait for it....) premiering at Sundance!!! NOW I'm excited about going back. This is the Best. News. Ever. I cannot wait.
