When I Was A Girl

Let's talk about how things have changed - especially when it comes to soccer. Now, you might not know this, but I played soccer for eight years when I was growing up. Eight long years of ugly cleats, uncomfortable shin guards, and gross uncomfortable boring red/blue jerseys. Don't get me wrong - I loved playing soccer, but I definitely wished the outfits were cuter. Let's look closer at how things have changed.
When I was a girl, the only cleats available, were boring black cleats.
Nowadays, cleats can be made in a variety of colors and styles, including these adorable pink flower cleats (!).
When I was a girl, these are an example of the uncomfortable shin guards we had to wear.
Nowadays shin guards come in comfy socks and they're not as hard and don't stick to your legs.
When I was a girl, we were lucky if we got lame orange slices and water at half time.
Nowadays, apparently teams get gift bags at the end of a game, complete with glitter lip gloss (!).
When I was a girl, this boring jersey was the height of team fashion.
Nowadays jerseys come in fun pink and blue colors.
When I was a girl, I was usually the only girl on a team of all boys. I could only dream of an all-girls team. Nowadays, they have all-girls teams. Lucky!
I don't have an example of what to show you when I was a girl, because signs like these were unheard of. Now they're so fancy!
Ah, those wretched jerseys. Oh, look - three girls on one team! It's a miracle!

How far soccer has come...I'm just sad I missed all the pink gear! :)
