Luckily, that was not the case and Mr. Van Dyke was a true gentleman as he left his brand new show. At first I was afraid he was blowing me off because he didn't seem to hear me, but I think I just wasn't speaking loud enough. Once he heard my request he was as nice as can be. Hooray! It's not every day you get to meet someone who was such a big part of your childhood.

Pinky's Fandance - Dick Van Dyke
It's always hard to meet a true Hollywood legend, because you fear that they may somehow disappoint you in person, which would then tarnish all the good feelings you had about that person. As I grew up watching Dick Van Dyke be amazing in everything from Mary Poppins to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I was terrified to meet him in public for fear he would be less-than-cheery and break my heart.
