The King's Speech
There's nothing I love more than a good film - something that's well acted, well written, and makes you think (and maybe even learn something). I've been hearing raving reviews of The King's Speech for several weeks and was dying to see it. It'd opened in small release, but then left our area before I could see it, so I thought I'd missed it. To my delight, it re-opened yesterday and my dad and I went to see it. Yay!
While it's true it's not a complicated story - Colin Firth's character King George VI has a speech impediment and works to overcome it - I found the acting rich, the story interesting, and the movie fantastic overall. Of course, I also have a soft spot for anthing having to do with the English Monarchy - it's just so fascinating to me - so I may be a wee bit biased about how well the film is received on an individual basis. For example, my dad didn't hate it, but didn't really love it either. Then again, we were sitting by the World's Most Annoying Couple - they were 102 if they were a day and kept talking throughout the film as though they were sitting in their living room. In fact, I think they may have forgotten they were actually in public. Bless their hearts. I'm sure that didn't help his movie-going experience. Between all the talking, texting, and annoyances of late, I fear he may never go back to the theater again.
Colin Firth is superb in this film, although my favorite character was probably Helena Bonham-Carter as the Queen. She was a comical genius and it's really well done. Check it out if you get a chance!
