When I Grow Up....

Do you remember when you were little and would dream about when you grew up and what amazing, fun job you'd do? When you're little, the world is your oyster and the options seem limitless. When you're older, well, it seems like life kind of takes care of itself and you might stumble into a job just as easily as finding something you always wanted to do. When I was little, I wanted to be an actress, a teacher, and a news broadcaster. Until I found out that being a newscaster takes you away from home a lot, I was really heading in that direction. But, I didn't want to be away from my family that long (insert ironic chuckle here). I love that I based my lifelong career goals on my pretend family that never came to be. But I digress. The lady who did my hair teaches at the local beauty college and it reminded me of the time when I really wanted to go to beauty school. I thought it was the perfect job, as I could do it anywhere and whenever. Sadly, this dream was not to be, but it's interesting to think how differently my life might've turned out if I had gone to beauty school. Does anyone really grow up and become what they thought they would?

there were four things i drew a picture of when i was six: hot air balloonist, grocery store cashier, nurse, and teacher. and you know the rest of the story. i now think it would be fun to be a hair stylist. can i go to beauty school with you so that i too can make money while i stay home with my kids?

For me it was bank teller. I wanted to stand there and hand out money and rootbeer barrel candies all day.
