Who Created the Spork?

Today when we were eating, we had the misfortune to be given sporks to use for our meal. What the heck is a spork anyway? Who created it? I think it's the stupidest utensil known to man. All it does is confuse me. I'm surprised it doesn't cut people's tongues when they use it. Does it ever help? I am not a fan.
