What's in a Name?
I've been thinking about names all day, after hearing that atrocious celebrity baby name this morning (Bronx Mowgli? Ugh. I'm still not over it). When I was reading my People magazine tonight, I noticed the names of Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith's kids and I don't know why I never noticed them before. Their son is named Jaden (after Jada) and their daughter is named Willow (after Will). Um, hi. Could their egos be ANY bigger? I mean, really. I understand giving your child your middle name or the name of someone you love, but making up names to appease your ego? Gross. Of course I recognize that naming a child is especially difficult (and almost impossible when you're a school teacher it seems), but there are plenty of books and websites dedicated to finding the perfect name (which is not just a different version of your own). A name is special and should be treated as such. Bronx Mowgli? Now that's just blech.
Wasn't Gizmo from the Gremlins a Mowgli?
