Applause. Applause. Applause (to quote a line from one of my favorite movies, "Pretty in Pink"). I just realized today that my childhood dream has come true. I've now officially met and had my picture taken with each one of the coveted 80's Trifecta. Who are these powerhouses, you ask? Who are these hunk-a-hunk-a-burning-loves who inspired me at the tender age of 12 to write them each a letter and invite them to my birthday party? Well, Ricky Schroder (of course), is number one. That's no surprise. However, in 1985, my letter to The Ricker received....no response. Sigh. However, I'd also written my number two (who also conveniently happened to star on Silver Spoons at the time), Jason Bateman, and his "people" wrote me back. Granted, the letter was basically an advertisement for a play he was starring in at a small theater in Hollywood, but that was enough for me. My mom and I jumped in a car, headed to Hollywood, and Jason Bateman was my very first celebrity picture. Success!!! :) Isn't my hair fabulous? How about that grip I've got on him? My hands are clasped so tightly around his waist I'm surprised we ever became unentangled. It's hilarious. I actually attended an acting class that summer at Jason's theater and my classmates would tease me about my big crush on Jason. Sadly, he never knew of my undying love.
The third and final piece of the 80's Trifecta is the one and only Sean Astin (from Goonies fame). When I met him at Sundance a few years ago, I told him about the letter I'd written him. He said, "I didn't come, did I?" I don't know about you, but I worshipped the Goonies movie. It was so much fun! My friends and I would go off and have Goonies adventures all the time. In fact, I'm pleased to say that I've had my picture taken with three members of the cast - Sean Astin (Mikey), Josh Brolin (Brand), and Corey Feldman (Mouth). OK, OK, you don't have to beg. I'll show you. :) Here's Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin. Oh, and just for fun, a pic of Alfonso Ribiero HATING me at a Laker's game. Yeah, I'd had a *teensy* too much wine at the game (on an empty stomach) and didn't even remember taking this picture. I dreamt about it like a week later and my friends were like, "Um, that was true." I do remember talking to him about Silver Spoons, but I don't think he was a big fan of my focusing on the 80's instead of his new Fresh Prince show. Oh well, at that point I just wanted to be near anyone who'd known The Ricker. :) Aren't my eyebrows fabulous? Was I trying to be Madonna?
Goonies was the best movie ever! What about my fav Chunk? What ever happened to the Chunkster
ReplyDeleteYou are my new hero. I came across this post in am effort to find some pics of Jason Bateman and I am so jealous and giddy that you did this. This post made my day and put a big old grin on my face.
